Backgammon Frames made from Hardwoods: Cherry varies from a creamy white to rich red to reddish brown and will darken with age and on exposure to light. The grain can be fine and uniform or wavy.  It has a satiny, smooth texture, and may naturally contain brown pith flecks and small gum pockets. Jatoba is sometimes referred to as Brazilian Cherry.  It is not Cherry Wood. It is hard and tough. The grain runs from russet to reddish brown, often with dark stripes or streaks. Maple leans towards a creamy white to a light tan color. We use curly maple and bird's eye maple for our boards. The photo above is curly maple. Walnut can range from a rich dark brown to almost black. The grain is mainly straight, but may also be curly or wavy. Click Here for Point and Exterior Colors
